This lovely sunshiny, yet chilly Monday called for light layers & polka dots.

It’s funny how often I locate gems in my closet that have been there forever, but hidden away in the abyss of the forgotten.  Today, I located the Mark by Avon denim skirt. This skirt has been part of my wardrobe for about 5 years now, yet only worn twice.  No clue why it hasn’t been worn more often, but it surely will be now that it has been remembered.

The sweater & boots are newer to my wardrobe purchased during Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays.  All other items have been part of my wardrobe for some time now.  The polka dot button down, scarf & tights have all made appearances on the blog before.

What I wore:

Cardigan: Target

Polka dot button down: Target (similar)

Denim skirt: Topshop (similar)

Tights: Old Navy (similar)

Polka dot scarf: (similar)

Booties: Macy’s

The other morning as I laid in bed deciding what to wear to work, a few pieces from my wardrobe came to mind.  Deciding on my outfit doesn’t always happen the night before due to sheer laziness.

After getting dressed it hit me…”OMG, I’m a walking billboard.” I was an unplanned walking advertisement for Mark by Avon, from head to toe. Even the handbag. IMG_0009

Many don’t even realize that Avon sells the cutest clothes. They do & the rotation changes often. My suggestion is to check weekly. I’ve snagged the cutest blazers, shoes, hats & handbags.

Every week my rep gives me a catalog and just about every week I can spend a “c-note” easily.  It never fails. Sometimes I have to tell her, “Please do not give me a catalog this week.” Self control & discipline are my weaknesses when it comes to clothes, shoes & accessories.

Now, all items weren’t purchased from my current rep as I’ve been shopping with Mark by Avon since about 2009.  Another rep introduced me to the Mark collection & I have been hooked ever since.

All items worn are no longer available, but don’t let that stop you from carousing the site or a catalog.  You just never know what you’ll find.

I’ve mentioned a few times previously, the importance of having a seamstress to assist when alterations are needed.  I never mentioned how valuable of an asset they are when it comes to creating the perfect look from scratch.

Carolyn Jean Blue, the seamstress I met while working a fashion show back in April has been simply amazing.  For the fashion show the designer gave the Carolyn “the blueprint” & she went to work bringing the vision to life.

I had the opportunity to model a boiler suit made by Carolyn Blue, which received raved reviews.  It was made well, fit well & looked great on.

Runway rippin’ in the boiler suit.

While loving the fit & Carolyn’s workmanship, I had to connect with her off the runway.  My wheels were turning; the ideas were floating everywhere in my head.  With the different events I had planned & those not even planned yet, I was ready with a list of items I wanted her to create for me.

The first item Carolyn officially made for me was the dress (below), which I was able to wear to a co-worker’s birthday celebration.

Needless to say, I love the dress & can’t wait for the opportunity to wear it again. The dress was simply accessorized & worn with sandals. The next time it’s worn I’ll exaggerate the accessories.

It’s not often I wear the same thing twice in the same week.  This item however, was just too cute to only wear once. I work full-time in a business casual environment, with Friday being our only casual day.  The item was worn business casually then casually that Friday. I couldn’t resist.  Needless to say, this item received plenty positive attention.

Fairly new to my wardrobe, only being worn 3 other times is the cutest duster, purchased at the one store I can’t resist, Target.  I keep telling you, “don’t sleep on ’em”.

It made the perfect swimsuit cover up & the perfect go to item in my wardrobe to add a little extra pizzaz to a humdrum outfit. Typically my “go to” work cover up would be a blazer or cardigan, but with the heat we’ve been experiencing something light weight was best.  I believe the very first time I wore the duster I belted it around the waist. Uber cute!

Worn business casually paired with a skirt & tank, both have been part of my wardrobe forever & a day. Worn casual Friday to work with a simple white tee & a pair of men jeans, which are also items from my current wardrobe. I’m still challenging myself to wear what I have without purchasing anything new. I’m about to go on vacation though & intend on spending a couple of coins treating myself to a few new items.  I mean it’s only fair since I am going on vacation.  Okay, so clearly I’m trying to convince myself. Don’t judge me!!

Okay, so last Sunday I felt like I was on top of the world because of the height.  I finally got a chance to wear my new Merrigan platform, open-toe clog from Just Fab.

FullSizeRender (68)
I had been itching to wear them since the beginning of July when they arrived.

The clog was worn with a dress from my current wardrobe that hasn’t been worn since 2012.  Although I purge my closet just about every other month as new items are purchased, certain items I can never get rid off.  If you know for a fact you plan on wearing something again, don’t get rid of it.  Only get rid of those you’re straddling the fence on or know for a fact it will not be worn again.

FullSizeRender (50) FullSizeRender (53)

Not exactly sure why I haven’t worn this dress since 2012, it’s so cute.  I can’t tell you how many hidden gems can be found at Target. Every time I run in there merely to grab something like hair products, housewares, home decor, make-up or something not clothes related I always find a way to venture into the clothes & shoes departments spending my “coins.” I need to keep myself out of there. FullSizeRender (51)

Although I was “scantily” dressed, the heat was real. While my son was taking pictures, the sun was baking me; sweat bullets were rolling down my back.  OMG, when’s the cool weather coming back?!  This heat can’t be life…lol

FullSizeRender (49)Every now and again I enjoy wearing bright colors together.  For the most part if I am wearing a bright color on top then I’ll pair with a more subtle color on the bottom & vice versa. Today was different.

When I purchased these yellow slacks a year ago, they fit perfectly.  I’ve gained some weight along the way causing them to fit differently. They’re a little snug making them a little shorter.

Yellow slacks worn to work last year. They sure don’t fit like this anymore.<a href=""><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1599" src="" alt="IMG_7073" width="225" height="300" srcset=" 2448w, 225w, 768w" sizes="(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px" /></a>

To cure the “high waters” syndrome, I used 2 hair ties to taper the legs giving them a cropped look. Improvision is the name of the game; after all, I’m no seamstress!

FullSizeRender (48)The Rue 21 statement necklace has become my “go to” piece these past few weeks. It fits perfectly with most solid fits adding color- just right for the summer. I haven’t been shopping in the last few months thus forcing me to practice what I preach of remixing what’s in my current wardrobe. All items worn are from my current wardrobe.

Wear what you have & love them or recycle them.  No need in holding on to items you don’t intend on wearing again & for those items you want to wear, but unsure how to wear them or what to wear them with drop me a line & let’s discuss. Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes & I have four…(lol) Utilize local consignment shops & clothing donation centers when purging. Remember, just because it’s outdated (purchased years or eons ago) or in this case a little shorter doesn’t make it unwearable. Utilize local drycleaners that provide alteration services, use the DIY method or contact a seamstress.  If you’re in Atlanta, GA you are welcome to use mine, Carolyn Jean Blue who can be reached at 770-905-3771 or

Casual Friday flex at work in my new Target “One Love”- Bob Marley tee.

FullSizeRender (41)

Like I said before, tee shirts are not allowed at work without a cover-up.  My cover-up of choice was my favorite boyfriend blazer, also from Target, making the fit work appropriate.  I actually considered wearing heels, but figured I’d keep it casual with a cute pair of flats. Monday through Thursday I live in heels; most Fridays I enjoy flats.  Of course, that all depends on the outfit as some just look better with heels.

FullSizeRender (43)I am totally addicted to graphic tee shirts & this one may have just become a favorite.  I do wish it were a little longer.  Hmmm, the search is on for another.

My little “there’s no place like home” Dorothy from the Wizard Oz red flats… 🙂

All other items worn are from my current wardrobe. The red flats are American Eagle Outfitters purchased from Payless several years ago. Yes, I did say Payless; I’m not opposed to purchasing shoes there as long as they are comfortable.  It’s all about comfort.  I’ve found that not all higher end shoes are comfortable. Don’t fall victim of labels, names or price. Go with cute, yet comfortable. Just because they’re expensive doesn’t make ’em comfortable.

FullSizeRender (38)Having long legs isn’t always a great thing, it’s an AWESOME thing.  At times those legs place restrictions on what I can wear. Because I know my legs are long, tweaking how certain things are worn is a necessity, especially for work.

I decided to wear the little black dress as a shirt with a pair of green & black crop pants, black tuxedo blazer, royal blue pumps & a statement necklace. Had to keep it appropriate for the workplace; having my legs & goodies exposed is not an option. Remember, dressing the part is important.

It’s funny how much my hair dictates what I’ll wear. These last few days I’ve been wearing my hair un-straightened.

Like I said before, your hair is your best accessory & should flow with the fit. I must say, the outfit choice went perfectly with my hair.

Remember your hair along with your make-up are your best accessories. Eyebrow upkeep is part of the make-up process.

Today’s fit is a combination of remixed & new items. The skirt is another hidden gem that has been in my wardrobe for 3 years, yet only worn once.  Why?? Don’t ask because I don’t have an answer.  Although barely been worn, I really like it.  The vest & handbag are new.

Ran into a slight dilemma trying to decide which shoes to wear.  Both looked good & worked with the fit however, the pumps did it for me. Gave it a more polished look. I’m a sucker for a classic, more polished look.

Both go well. Was almost tempted to wear each one. 🙂

 FullSizeRender (35)

Although the skirt is light-weight it holds the heat.  I was sweating like a pig, but it was worth it. Side note- I’m ready for fall. I challenged myself to wear more skirts & dresses & that’s what I’m trying to do.

Love the fact work clothes aren’t as boring as they once were.  Well, for me anyway.  I used to be hell bent on wearing regular slacks or capris.  Slacks aren’t just slacks anymore. Never thought I’d see the day I’d wear track pants to work.  The irony & secret here is when my khakis shrink I use thin hair ties to scrunch the legs of my pants, giving them a track pant look.
FullSizeRender (33)These pants are exactly like the track pants we used to wear in the 1990’s. Fashion always makes a turn around.

Purchased the pants on sale at the beginning of spring from Dress Up & the blouse from H&M (both items no longer available).  The accessories are from everywhere; too many places to list all & some I can’t seem remember.
