Church Flow

When it comes to some colors we think they are limited to certain seasons. That’s not the case!  It all depends how the colors are worn & with what. It’s perfectly okay to wear yellow during the fall & winter.  It’s all about execution. Wearing orange with a darker green is also acceptable during the summer.

FullSizeRender (27)

It shocked me when someone said, “wow, never thought of wearing green & orange combination in the summer.” But why not? It looks perfectly fine to me. My eyebrows were scrunched, I’m sure. Styled by JReid used that as the perfect opportunity for a brief tutorial. Fashion is about taking risks, experimenting, having fun, & self expression. Fashion is art.

FullSizeRender (30)All items worn are very cool & summery.  Bermuda shorts, sheer-sleeveless shirt & peep-toe pumps.  Worn with closed toe booties, tights, a sweater, jacket or coat with a scarf (basically layers) would easily transition the fit from spring & summer to fall & winter. Just to list a few ideas. Remember, accessories can change the dynamics of an outfit drastically.

Have fun fashionably!

Business Casual

IMG_1520 (1)I wake up everyday extremely thankful to GOD for an abundance of clothes.  This Sunday was one of those days as I discovered a few dresses that haven’t been worn in years.  The last time this dress was worn, it was to one of my cousin’s wedding in 2013. Since I hadn’t worn it in so long if felt like I was wearing something new. It’s simply amazing what can be found in one’s wardrobe.  Purchasing something new isn’t always necessary.IMG_1519 (Sorry for the crazy faces; the sun was out with a vengeance.)FullSizeRender (25)

Take time going through your wardrobe to find all hidden gems.  Be sure to try them on to ensure they still fit comfortably & are flattering on.  Change the shoes & accessories to style it differently than the last time it was worn. Don’t forget about hats, scarves, cardigans, blazers, belts, brooches, ties & jewelry; they’re all great accessories & can remix repeated looks.

Church Flow

Clearly I enjoy torturing myself on Sunday mornings before church.  Saturday nights I go bed without putting my clothes together knowing I have church in the morning.  Tisk, tisk, tisk!!  Some mornings I can put something together with ease, while others I stand in the closet dumbfounded. This was one of those Sundays.  I knew which shoes I wanted to wear, but with what, was the question.

FullSizeRender (23)

Got it; only took about 20 minutes & I had to decide what my child was wearing.  Not to mention shower, get dressed, do my hair & apply my make-up.  Basically I am saying “it’s beneficial for me to choose my clothes the night before.”

All items from my current wardrobe, worn similarly some time last year with a different blazer & different shoes.  (last year’s outfit not featured on the blog, but on InstaGram under @styledbyjreid) Similar outfit posted on the blog October 1, 2014 with the shoes & a green blazer. The common denominator here is the black & white.

FullSizeRender (21) IMG_1477

Wear the same base colors, but modify the look each time using various color splashes.  Black & white are simple base colors that any other color can be added to enhance them.  Black, white & pink. Black, white & neon.  Black, white & red.  Black, white & royal blue.  Black, white & yellow.  Black, white & turquoise. Black, white & purple.  I could go on, but you get the drift.

IMG_1472 Accessories can be used to add color too.

The color pop/contrast doesn’t always have to come from another article of clothing, nor does it have to be something of a solid color.  Think outside the box & have fun.

Casual Flow

FullSizeRender (17)How I love casual attire!  When it comes to casual Fridays on the job, I take full advantage of them.  Now that the heat is on it makes obeying the casual Friday dress code difficult for me, but I must.  Since sneakers & flip flops aren’t allowed I’m forced to wear shoes although I’d rather not.  Gotta do what I gotta do!!!

IMG_1467 FullSizeRender (16) FullSizeRender (15)

Pushed the envelope a bit with this fit as tee-shirts aren’t allowed either.  Typically I wear a blazer or sweater over any t-shirt I wear in an effort to obey the dress code. Not today, clearly! The GAP camouflage pants made an appearance on the blog before.  The sandals & t-shirt are new to the blog, added to my wardrobe earlier this spring.  Sandals purchased from Marshalls & the tee from Target.

Think of camo pants like a pair of blue jeans that can be worn with any print or color. They say “orange is the new black,” but I say, “camouflage is the new black.”                      FullSizeRender (18)

I don’t get dressed for recognition, but getting it certainly does boost my confidence.  Blushing!!

It’s always the last minute outfits that are noticed the most.

IMG_1429Interesting enough, when I woke this Sunday I had no clue what to wear.  I knew Atlanta expecting a hot one & I didn’t want to wear pants.  I know, I know, no pants- shocking!  As I stood perusing through my closet, I came across yet another lost item, then another & another…& a sister & her brother! Image result for pink smiley face Slipped a Slick Rick in there!! The clutch has made several appearances.

Casual Flow

FullSizeRender (10)A nice, hot Saturday calls for a crisp white tee & a hat.  There’s something about a white tee-shirt that is attractive me. It can be worn with nearly anything. It’s simple, yet it can be dressed up & accessorized.

The tee, jeans & shoes all together cost a few dollars less than $25.  Who doesn’t like a cheap fit? – I know I do! On H&M‘s website the tee is no longer available, but there’s still hope because I actually purchased it in store.  Check the store, you just may find it. Rock and Republic jeans purchased from Kohl’s for a whopping $3.50 about 3 years ago.  Talk about a steal!

The lovely navy straw hat has been in my accessory wardrobe for 2 years, purchased from Old Navy. I wear this hat pretty much every weekend; if not this one, trust me, it’s another straw hat. They are the perfect accessory to protect from the spring & summer heat, just because, or on a bad hair day.

Business

Most outfits can be worn a variety of occasions.  Because it was purchased for work doesn’t make it exempt for church, a graduation, a business meeting or anywhere else for that mater. Now there will be some pieces of course that are inappropriate or not not meant to be worn to certain places. That’s where dressing the part is important.

FullSizeRender (5)This fit was worn as business casual attire to work, but it is equally suitable for church, a date, business meeting, graduation or a simple dinner.  The pants and the pumps are new to my wardrobe. FullSizeRender (9)

Yes, it’s spring, but I prefer a comfy pair of pants over a skirt. Not a huge fan of wearing skirts.  Don’t get me wrong, I like skirts & I do wear them, not often though.

FullSizeRender (6)

I was on the hunt for a pair of brown, tan or nude pumps & I was able to find these at Target for a reasonable price.  One of the good things about the shoe is the fact that they are rubber on the bottom which is great for comfort & traction when walking on slippery surfaces.  Have you ever see women slip while walking in their shoes?  It’s due to the lack of traction. Shoes without rubber soles are more risky to walk in. Leather is my preference, but the for the price they were worth it until I am able to locate a pair of leather ones I just can’t leave without.

Graduation Flow

FullSizeRender (4)Had the pleasure of attending the 2015 Georgia State University graduation ceremony for the son of a good friend of mine.  The plan was to dress cute, yet comfortably & cool for the hot weather.  Needless to say, for the month of May I’ve been shopping which wasn’t the plan. In my defense, I had to shop for Mother’s Day gifts & since I am a mother a gift was needed. Image result for smiley face

The outfit worn is a combination of items from my current wardrobe and, an item I purchased as a Mother’s Day gift to myself. I’m a total sucker for sales & even more of a sucker for New York and Company.  I was able to score an outfit with shoes for my mom, the cutest pair of linen capris for my grandmother & a few items for ME.  No, I’m not selfish, I just like to treat myself.

Went extremely easy on the accessories to keep the fit simple. Sometimes less is better.

Business Casual

Another chilly spring day here in Atlanta.  I’m a lover of cool weather, but this bipolar weather… cold today, hot tomorrow business is ridiculous. Sheesh!!!
FullSizeRenderFound another lost item from my current wardrobe, the lace top purchased a few years back from Dress Barn when I worked there. The shoes, fairly new to my wardrobe; purchased some time this year via Shoe Dazzle, worn a few times already, but never featured on the blog. The cardigan worn for a little warmth & to cover up my arms at work.  I can’t have the “guns” out at work…lol. The accessories I’ve had for several years, not worn very often, but definitely not forgotten.

Casual Flow

Two weekends ago I celebrated my son’s 11th birthday.  I figured, since he is the greatest son in the world & enjoys quality time with me- “Road Trip”! We visited the Wilderness at the Smokies in Tennessee. He had a blast at the indoor & outdoor water parks; me, I had a blast watching him have a blast & enjoyed the water too.

Most of the weekend I spent in a swimsuit, but for the few moments when my swimsuit wasn’t worn I enjoyed comfortable, casual clothing.  The weather was warm enough to wear short sleeves & flip flops. A hint of spring weather!  IMG_1068

It wasn’t sunny, however there was enough sun to shed some light on the days despite the rain we also experienced. Well, this trip was the perfect opportunity to break out a few new items.  The Vera Bradley tote bag is new to my wardrobe recently purchased from VRx Pharmacy.  Found them on Instagram all the way in City Creek, Utah.  It arrived just in time for our little trip- happy girl! The other new item is the t-shirt purchased at Target. You’ll see this t-shirt again a few times on the blog.  Oh yeah, I have a thing for t-shirts too.  Okay, okay, I must confess, I have a thing for all things “cute.”
