Business Casual

I’m all about maximizing one’s wardrobe utilizing the “remixing method”. It’s the best way to increase what I call, Wardrobe Inventory.  Having a large quantity of clothes really isn’t necessary, great, but not necessary.  I find, the more I have, the less there is & the harder it is to make a decision on what to wear. Now, you don’t want to have too little because then there possess to be an issue with noticeable repetitiveness.

Shirt 1- a flannel, plaid shirt worn 3 different ways:

Outfit 1-  worn as an accessory, wrapped around the waist.

Outfit 2-  Worn as a cover-up or light jacket over a tee-shirt.

Outfit 3-  worn as a shirt, but belted to give it a spunkier look.

Shirt 2- a high-low, tuxedo back button top:

Outfit 1-  worn in the winter under a faux fur vest casually with jeans.

Outfit 2-  business casually worn with slacks & a blazer, appropriate for the workplace.

All items from my current wardrobe.

Tidbit: Finding multiple ways to wear the same pieces is key to expanding one’s wardrobe.  Happy remixing!

When I try not to spend my coins, but my Avon representative shows up with a new catalog enticing me. The eye catcher this time were the Silver Streak Sneaks.  I had to have them. IMG_4878I ordered them along with a pair of pumps that were a must have too. IMG_4870 (Edited)Truth be told, I had no clue how I was going to wear my new sneakers or with what for that matter, but I knew I wanted to wear them as soon as they arrived. After all they took forever to arrive due to an error with my address.

The day I decided to wear them was a work day for me so I had to pull off a successful business casual look with a little flare. All black was the simplest way to go & most appropriate. The brief case was worn to give it the business feel (there was no real business going on in that brief case…lol).

IMG_4867 (Edited)The attention these sneaks received was incredible.  All I could do was rant & rave about how comfortable & affordable they are. They are super worth it! Go get you a pair before they’re sold out.

All other items worn are remixed pieces from my wardrobe .

Winter in Georgia is so unpredictable. Cold today, freezing tomorrow then warm the following; you just never what the temperature will be. Well today was one of those warmer winter days where a jacket wasn’t needed, but long sleeves were a must. Today’s outfit accommodated the weather perfectly.

All items worn are from my current wardrobe with a few items that have made appearances on the blog before.  Never be afraid of remixing your clothes.  The cape was featured on the blog some months back & it was worn just last week with a skirt (not pictured or blogged).

This was a comfortable work day for me. Thank God for a business casual environment.

The other morning as I laid in bed deciding what to wear to work, a few pieces from my wardrobe came to mind.  Deciding on my outfit doesn’t always happen the night before due to sheer laziness.

After getting dressed it hit me…”OMG, I’m a walking billboard.” I was an unplanned walking advertisement for Mark by Avon, from head to toe. Even the handbag. IMG_0009

Many don’t even realize that Avon sells the cutest clothes. They do & the rotation changes often. My suggestion is to check weekly. I’ve snagged the cutest blazers, shoes, hats & handbags.

Every week my rep gives me a catalog and just about every week I can spend a “c-note” easily.  It never fails. Sometimes I have to tell her, “Please do not give me a catalog this week.” Self control & discipline are my weaknesses when it comes to clothes, shoes & accessories.

Now, all items weren’t purchased from my current rep as I’ve been shopping with Mark by Avon since about 2009.  Another rep introduced me to the Mark collection & I have been hooked ever since.

All items worn are no longer available, but don’t let that stop you from carousing the site or a catalog.  You just never know what you’ll find.

It’s not often I wear the same thing twice in the same week.  This item however, was just too cute to only wear once. I work full-time in a business casual environment, with Friday being our only casual day.  The item was worn business casually then casually that Friday. I couldn’t resist.  Needless to say, this item received plenty positive attention.

Fairly new to my wardrobe, only being worn 3 other times is the cutest duster, purchased at the one store I can’t resist, Target.  I keep telling you, “don’t sleep on ’em”.

It made the perfect swimsuit cover up & the perfect go to item in my wardrobe to add a little extra pizzaz to a humdrum outfit. Typically my “go to” work cover up would be a blazer or cardigan, but with the heat we’ve been experiencing something light weight was best.  I believe the very first time I wore the duster I belted it around the waist. Uber cute!

Worn business casually paired with a skirt & tank, both have been part of my wardrobe forever & a day. Worn casual Friday to work with a simple white tee & a pair of men jeans, which are also items from my current wardrobe. I’m still challenging myself to wear what I have without purchasing anything new. I’m about to go on vacation though & intend on spending a couple of coins treating myself to a few new items.  I mean it’s only fair since I am going on vacation.  Okay, so clearly I’m trying to convince myself. Don’t judge me!!

FullSizeRender (38)Having long legs isn’t always a great thing, it’s an AWESOME thing.  At times those legs place restrictions on what I can wear. Because I know my legs are long, tweaking how certain things are worn is a necessity, especially for work.

I decided to wear the little black dress as a shirt with a pair of green & black crop pants, black tuxedo blazer, royal blue pumps & a statement necklace. Had to keep it appropriate for the workplace; having my legs & goodies exposed is not an option. Remember, dressing the part is important.

Love the fact work clothes aren’t as boring as they once were.  Well, for me anyway.  I used to be hell bent on wearing regular slacks or capris.  Slacks aren’t just slacks anymore. Never thought I’d see the day I’d wear track pants to work.  The irony & secret here is when my khakis shrink I use thin hair ties to scrunch the legs of my pants, giving them a track pant look.
FullSizeRender (33)These pants are exactly like the track pants we used to wear in the 1990’s. Fashion always makes a turn around.

Purchased the pants on sale at the beginning of spring from Dress Up & the blouse from H&M (both items no longer available).  The accessories are from everywhere; too many places to list all & some I can’t seem remember.

IMG_1520 (1)I wake up everyday extremely thankful to GOD for an abundance of clothes.  This Sunday was one of those days as I discovered a few dresses that haven’t been worn in years.  The last time this dress was worn, it was to one of my cousin’s wedding in 2013. Since I hadn’t worn it in so long if felt like I was wearing something new. It’s simply amazing what can be found in one’s wardrobe.  Purchasing something new isn’t always necessary.IMG_1519 (Sorry for the crazy faces; the sun was out with a vengeance.)FullSizeRender (25)

Take time going through your wardrobe to find all hidden gems.  Be sure to try them on to ensure they still fit comfortably & are flattering on.  Change the shoes & accessories to style it differently than the last time it was worn. Don’t forget about hats, scarves, cardigans, blazers, belts, brooches, ties & jewelry; they’re all great accessories & can remix repeated looks.

Most outfits can be worn a variety of occasions.  Because it was purchased for work doesn’t make it exempt for church, a graduation, a business meeting or anywhere else for that mater. Now there will be some pieces of course that are inappropriate or not not meant to be worn to certain places. That’s where dressing the part is important.

FullSizeRender (5)This fit was worn as business casual attire to work, but it is equally suitable for church, a date, business meeting, graduation or a simple dinner.  The pants and the pumps are new to my wardrobe. FullSizeRender (9)

Yes, it’s spring, but I prefer a comfy pair of pants over a skirt. Not a huge fan of wearing skirts.  Don’t get me wrong, I like skirts & I do wear them, not often though.

FullSizeRender (6)

I was on the hunt for a pair of brown, tan or nude pumps & I was able to find these at Target for a reasonable price.  One of the good things about the shoe is the fact that they are rubber on the bottom which is great for comfort & traction when walking on slippery surfaces.  Have you ever see women slip while walking in their shoes?  It’s due to the lack of traction. Shoes without rubber soles are more risky to walk in. Leather is my preference, but the for the price they were worth it until I am able to locate a pair of leather ones I just can’t leave without.

Another chilly spring day here in Atlanta.  I’m a lover of cool weather, but this bipolar weather… cold today, hot tomorrow business is ridiculous. Sheesh!!!
FullSizeRenderFound another lost item from my current wardrobe, the lace top purchased a few years back from Dress Barn when I worked there. The shoes, fairly new to my wardrobe; purchased some time this year via Shoe Dazzle, worn a few times already, but never featured on the blog. The cardigan worn for a little warmth & to cover up my arms at work.  I can’t have the “guns” out at work…lol. The accessories I’ve had for several years, not worn very often, but definitely not forgotten.
