Casual Flow

FullSizeRender (49)Every now and again I enjoy wearing bright colors together.  For the most part if I am wearing a bright color on top then I’ll pair with a more subtle color on the bottom & vice versa. Today was different.

When I purchased these yellow slacks a year ago, they fit perfectly.  I’ve gained some weight along the way causing them to fit differently. They’re a little snug making them a little shorter.

Yellow slacks worn to work last year. They sure don’t fit like this anymore.<a href=""><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1599" src="" alt="IMG_7073" width="225" height="300" srcset=" 2448w, 225w, 768w" sizes="(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px" /></a>

To cure the “high waters” syndrome, I used 2 hair ties to taper the legs giving them a cropped look. Improvision is the name of the game; after all, I’m no seamstress!

FullSizeRender (48)The Rue 21 statement necklace has become my “go to” piece these past few weeks. It fits perfectly with most solid fits adding color- just right for the summer. I haven’t been shopping in the last few months thus forcing me to practice what I preach of remixing what’s in my current wardrobe. All items worn are from my current wardrobe.

Wear what you have & love them or recycle them.  No need in holding on to items you don’t intend on wearing again & for those items you want to wear, but unsure how to wear them or what to wear them with drop me a line & let’s discuss. Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes & I have four…(lol) Utilize local consignment shops & clothing donation centers when purging. Remember, just because it’s outdated (purchased years or eons ago) or in this case a little shorter doesn’t make it unwearable. Utilize local drycleaners that provide alteration services, use the DIY method or contact a seamstress.  If you’re in Atlanta, GA you are welcome to use mine, Carolyn Jean Blue who can be reached at 770-905-3771 or

Casual Friday flex at work in my new Target “One Love”- Bob Marley tee.

FullSizeRender (41)

Like I said before, tee shirts are not allowed at work without a cover-up.  My cover-up of choice was my favorite boyfriend blazer, also from Target, making the fit work appropriate.  I actually considered wearing heels, but figured I’d keep it casual with a cute pair of flats. Monday through Thursday I live in heels; most Fridays I enjoy flats.  Of course, that all depends on the outfit as some just look better with heels.

FullSizeRender (43)I am totally addicted to graphic tee shirts & this one may have just become a favorite.  I do wish it were a little longer.  Hmmm, the search is on for another.

My little “there’s no place like home” Dorothy from the Wizard Oz red flats… 🙂

All other items worn are from my current wardrobe. The red flats are American Eagle Outfitters purchased from Payless several years ago. Yes, I did say Payless; I’m not opposed to purchasing shoes there as long as they are comfortable.  It’s all about comfort.  I’ve found that not all higher end shoes are comfortable. Don’t fall victim of labels, names or price. Go with cute, yet comfortable. Just because they’re expensive doesn’t make ’em comfortable.

One Love!!

Business Casual

Love the fact work clothes aren’t as boring as they once were.  Well, for me anyway.  I used to be hell bent on wearing regular slacks or capris.  Slacks aren’t just slacks anymore. Never thought I’d see the day I’d wear track pants to work.  The irony & secret here is when my khakis shrink I use thin hair ties to scrunch the legs of my pants, giving them a track pant look.
FullSizeRender (33)These pants are exactly like the track pants we used to wear in the 1990’s. Fashion always makes a turn around.

Purchased the pants on sale at the beginning of spring from Dress Up & the blouse from H&M (both items no longer available).  The accessories are from everywhere; too many places to list all & some I can’t seem remember.

FullSizeRender (17)How I love casual attire!  When it comes to casual Fridays on the job, I take full advantage of them.  Now that the heat is on it makes obeying the casual Friday dress code difficult for me, but I must.  Since sneakers & flip flops aren’t allowed I’m forced to wear shoes although I’d rather not.  Gotta do what I gotta do!!!

IMG_1467 FullSizeRender (16) FullSizeRender (15)

Pushed the envelope a bit with this fit as tee-shirts aren’t allowed either.  Typically I wear a blazer or sweater over any t-shirt I wear in an effort to obey the dress code. Not today, clearly! The GAP camouflage pants made an appearance on the blog before.  The sandals & t-shirt are new to the blog, added to my wardrobe earlier this spring.  Sandals purchased from Marshalls & the tee from Target.

Think of camo pants like a pair of blue jeans that can be worn with any print or color. They say “orange is the new black,” but I say, “camouflage is the new black.”                      FullSizeRender (18)

FullSizeRender (10)A nice, hot Saturday calls for a crisp white tee & a hat.  There’s something about a white tee-shirt that is attractive me. It can be worn with nearly anything. It’s simple, yet it can be dressed up & accessorized.

The tee, jeans & shoes all together cost a few dollars less than $25.  Who doesn’t like a cheap fit? – I know I do! On H&M‘s website the tee is no longer available, but there’s still hope because I actually purchased it in store.  Check the store, you just may find it. Rock and Republic jeans purchased from Kohl’s for a whopping $3.50 about 3 years ago.  Talk about a steal!

The lovely navy straw hat has been in my accessory wardrobe for 2 years, purchased from Old Navy. I wear this hat pretty much every weekend; if not this one, trust me, it’s another straw hat. They are the perfect accessory to protect from the spring & summer heat, just because, or on a bad hair day.

Two weekends ago I celebrated my son’s 11th birthday.  I figured, since he is the greatest son in the world & enjoys quality time with me- “Road Trip”! We visited the Wilderness at the Smokies in Tennessee. He had a blast at the indoor & outdoor water parks; me, I had a blast watching him have a blast & enjoyed the water too.

Most of the weekend I spent in a swimsuit, but for the few moments when my swimsuit wasn’t worn I enjoyed comfortable, casual clothing.  The weather was warm enough to wear short sleeves & flip flops. A hint of spring weather!  IMG_1068

It wasn’t sunny, however there was enough sun to shed some light on the days despite the rain we also experienced. Well, this trip was the perfect opportunity to break out a few new items.  The Vera Bradley tote bag is new to my wardrobe recently purchased from VRx Pharmacy.  Found them on Instagram all the way in City Creek, Utah.  It arrived just in time for our little trip- happy girl! The other new item is the t-shirt purchased at Target. You’ll see this t-shirt again a few times on the blog.  Oh yeah, I have a thing for t-shirts too.  Okay, okay, I must confess, I have a thing for all things “cute.”

DSC_4806With the recent heat wave here in Atlanta, this may actually be the last chance for boots this winter. In short, I am so not looking forward to the summer.

Today’s fit consists of all items from my current wardrobe; a few pieces previously showcased on the blog.  Today I wore the caramel colored boots  to add a little color to the black & grey.  Who says brown can’t be used as a color pop or worn with black?? Any color can be used as a pop of color piece if it is coordinated correctly. The t-shirt was was a must have because of the words…

Trust a few

Do wrong to none”

Make good use of the clothing in your closet utilizing the remix method.  Of course, make purchases when necessary since it is imperative to keep your closet up date & looking fresh.  If your older clothes actually look old, worn out or damaged, please get rid of them.  Now is the perfect time for a closet make-over as spring is drawing near.

Most of my outfits consist of items that have been part of my wardrobe & the exact items may no longer be available, but note similar ones can be found at the retailers mentioned in my previous blogs.  Please do not hesitate to email me at for inquires or tips on how to successfully remix your clothes, revamp your wardrobe or make a seasonal transition.

Well, it seems like the weather in Georgia is warming up.  Not looking forward to the heat coming our way, tired of the rain & happy for some sun.  Savoring the few days of winter weather before the heat wave.

As you can see this blue jacket has become a favorite item in my wardrobe. This fit is a combination of items from my current wardrobe & new items.  The sweater dress & tights are new; purchased as birthday gifts to myself last month.  Now that we’re in March I cannot purchase anything for myself as per my February 12, 2015 post: every other month no unnecessary spending.

IMG_0756The dress was darling & I had to purchase it.  Wearing dresses isn’t really my thing, however, I am venturing out of my comfort zone slowly, but surely.

DSC_3792Chilly, casual Friday called for a denim on denim ensemble. All items worn are from my current wardrobe.  Absolutely nothing new, fairly new or somewhat new.  Jeans & shoes I had completely forgotten about. DSC_3782 Let’s remember belts don’t just serve the purpose of holding our britches up, but they serve as accessories too.  Use them whenever possible. Loops aren’t always needed a belt to be worn. Oh yeah, I have a thing for skulls.

Notice anything different about the photos???? Let me share how styledbyJReid has been blessed with a new photographer, Molly Wood, who can be reached via email at She’s a talented photographer, great at her craft & a pleasure to work with.  I am honored to work with such a talented young lady.

Of course, I must give credit to my 10 year old that is always willing to photograph his mother whenever asked utilizing our Apple products.  I am thankful for my little man.
